Can you believe it's almost here? Christmas is coming! And while the Christmas season may be flying by at lightning speed for you, there is always so much anticipation around this time of year. Can you imagine the anticipation before the first Christmas? The whole world was waiting, all of Heaven was leaning in, anticipating the moment God would become man and make a way for us to be reconciled to Him. And with a baby's first cry, it was finally here! The first Christmas and the greatest gift the world would ever be given. You know, all too often, we anticipate the Christmas season, but we don't focus on the first Christmas. As you go through the next few days, make Christmas holy in your heart. Choose to think about the first Christmas and the greatest gift of all. And to celebrate what Christ has done, share the gift of the Gospel. Our Offerings

If we follow the King, we must follow His example. Our life is an offering to Him! There were Magi from the East who were looking at the sky and waiting generation after generation for a prophesied star. And the night they saw it, they set out to find the true King—the Messiah. And after years of journeying, they found a boy named Jesus—God in the flesh—dwelling here on earth among the people that He came to save. These kings bowed down and worshipped Him; they laid their offerings at His feet. And in the same way, we must be willing give our time, our comforts, our talents, and our gifts as an offering to Jesus. And just as He humbly came to share the Good News of eternal life through His death on the cross and resurrection three days later, so we too must share as He did. The Hypostatic Union

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Something I have been pondering lately is the matchless, never-ending, wonderful love of God. As we celebrate this season of Jesus' birth, I’m reminded that the God who created the universe—and us!—gave up His glorious throne to step into this world as a man. Now don't get me wrong—Jesus is God. He’s always been one hundred percent so. At the same time, He came to earth, born as a baby… He is also one hundred percent man. This is known as the hypostatic union. And when He was born, His glory was veiled. It must have been quite difficult for Him to humbly take on flesh, but Jesus did it out of His great love for us, and His desire for God’s glory. He chose the road to the cross because He knew His perfect life must be the sacrifice for our imperfect ones. He came to live beside us and share how we can have eternal life. The Best Gift

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 8:9, "...though [Jesus] was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." The wealth Paul is talking about in this passage…it isn't your finances—he's talking about the gift of eternal life. When Jesus came to this earth humbly as a baby, He traded the wealth of Heaven for the poverty of this world. But He did it so that we might become rich and have the opportunity to accept the free gift of eternal life. So this Christmas season, give the best gift of all by sharing with your friends and family Jesus. Share that Jesus came to take our poverty and adopt us as children of God. He became "obedient unto death, even death on a cross" to give us abundant and everlasting life through Him. And in response, we gratefully praise Him and share this Good News with others! Need help? Humble Beginnings

On one starry night, long ago, a baby was born in a manger. The angels in the Bible describe this infant to the cowering shepherds as their "Savior... Christ the Lord!" Now, I imagine these Jewish men did not expect the King of kings and the Lord of lords—their Messiah!—to come as a baby. But when they went to see Jesus, lying in a manger, the Word of God says that right after they met Him, they went and told everyone what they had seen. And that is precisely what should happen when you meet our humble Savior, who came to rescue us from our sins. You worship Him, and then go tell others about Him. Let's share the Gospel of hope that Jesus came from heaven to earth, lived an absolutely perfect life, and died on the cross so that we may have eternal life if we put our faith in Him and Him alone. Our Savior, Christ the Lord

"...for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Those words are some of the most monumental that have ever been uttered on this earth — and that's not even because an angel said them! What an amazing, miraculous thing — that the God who created the world and everything in it came to this earth as a baby. And He came for a purpose. He is our Savior, Christ the Lord. You see, we are all dead in our trespasses—this has been apparent since sin came into the world through Adam and Eve. And we have anxiously waited for the Messiah ever since. Well, He came, He lived the perfect life that we couldn't, He died on the cross for our sins as a sacrifice, and then He rose again from the dead—defeated sin and death! Carols and the Gospel

"Hark! the herald angels sing, 'Glory to the newborn King: peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!" Charles Wesley penned these beautiful words to music that Mendelssohn wrote; and even now — hundreds of years later — you can still hear this song in the mall as you shop for Christmas. Did you know that many of our classic Christmas songs declare the Good News of what Jesus has done? God has given us a way to be reconciled with Him through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We celebrate this season Jesus coming as a baby born to a virgin. He lived a perfect life and died on the cross for our sins. The Bible says in Isaiah that "He was pierced for our transgressions/crushed for our iniquities." He brought peace to a people drowning in their wrongdoings and separated from God. Ebenezer Scrooge

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
"The cold within him froze his features, nipped his pointed nose, shriveled his cheek, stiffened his gait..." Those are the words Charles Dickens used to describe his well-known character, Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge was known for despising all things about Christmas, especially helping the poor and the needy. He would shout, "Bah, humbug!" at anything kind and good. When we hear about people like him, you know it's easy for us to say, "Well, I'm not like that, so I guess I'm a pretty good person!" Compared to Scrooge...yes, you may be! But compared to the standard God has set in Matthew 5 where He says, "Be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect"...well, you know we all fall short of that. The truth is, all of us have sinned. But there is good news! Jesus came and took the punishment for us. And for all those who believe in Him, God substitutes Christ’s perfect life for our sin-filled one. Never Failing Hope

Have you ever put your hope in another person? Well, if that person is trustworthy, it’s fine! But here's the problem with placing your hope in other people: sometimes, they let you down. But I am here to tell you that placing your hope in Jesus will never result in you being let down. Even though He is God, He gave up His heavenly glory to join us here on earth as a baby, which we celebrate at Christmas! Jesus lived an absolutely perfect life and sacrificed Himself on the cross as a substitute for our sins. And because He rose again from the grave, He has the power and authority to offer eternal life as an absolutely free gift to us. And now, our hope for Heaven can be certain because Jesus is faithful! He promised us in Genesis a way of salvation, and He was faithful to do exactly what He said He would do. If you don't have this eternal hope yet, well friend, look to Jesus. You Can Be Certain

What can you be completely certain about this Christmas-time? Well, you can be sure that the days will get shorter as the time the sun is up decreases. You can be sure that you'll begin to see decorations as companies and communities prepare for the season. And you can be absolutely certain that you cannot get into Heaven because of the good things that you've done. Now, before you write that off as a calloused statement or simply an opinion, consider what the Bible says. The Bible tells us that no one is good, not even one. It also tells us to be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect. It is a real problem for us if no one is good, yet you’re expected to be perfect. However, this problem is solved by the Person of Jesus Christ who was both God and Man - perfect, just and full of grace.
