A New Purpose

On this New Year’s Eve, we all wait with bated breath to welcome in the new year at midnight. And for most people, this is a special time… a restart, a refresh, a reset. And it's a time when we can think deeply of our purpose for the next year. So let me ask you one of the most important questions that I’ve ever heard...What are you living for? What is the purpose of your life? Did you know that God calls us to examine ourselves; and then, He gives us specific things in His Word that we’re created us for! The last commandment that Christ gave was that we were to go and make disciples to all nations. He also challenges us to be salt and light—salt in that we keep the culture from utterly corrupting; light in that we bring into the darkness of men’s mind the light of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. New Year’s Goal

What's your goal this coming new year? The number one New Year’s resolution people typically make is focused on physical health. But how is your spiritual health? Just like exercise helps your overall health as we become more fit, we need discipline in our walk with God to become spiritually healthy. God doesn't want us to remain stagnant in our relationship with Him. He wants us to grow! And one of the ways we can do this is by centering our lives around Him. Just like we make time for people who are most important to us—to talk with them, hear their hearts, encourage them and share our thoughts with them—God wants the same. To deepen our connection and relationship with Him, we need to speak to Him! And we can do this through prayer. Let me encourage you today to set aside time to pray, and then begin to share your heart with your Creator and Friend. He is listening and will respond—through His Word or other means! A Fresh Start

Around this time of year, we have been drawing closer to Jesus through celebrating Him coming to earth as an infant, living a perfect life, and dying on the cross for our sins. What an amazing sacrifice and great love our Savior has for us! Perhaps, you have found yourself making the decision to accept what He has done for you and have placed your trust in Him. You have made a great decision! Now you can get to know Jesus as your Best Friend. He told us in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." God wants your life to be fulfilling and rewarding. He's promised to help you! But where can you start? Well, just as your body needs food, your spirit needs nourishment. The Christ After Christmas

“Jesus said, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” These words from Jesus in John 14:6 share with us an important lesson as we move on past Christmas Day. Jesus is still the Christ even after Christmas. He offers a fulfilling and everlasting life to all who would put their trust in Him. That impacts every day of the year and every year of our lives until one day we go to be with Him in Heaven. And as we grow in our relationship with Jesus, He makes us “like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” The gift of growing in our relationship with Jesus truly makes us have a wonderful and fulfilling life in every season. Make Room for Jesus

“Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown when Thou camest to earth for me; but in Bethlehem’s home was there found no room for Thy holy nativity.” This beautiful hymn written by Emily Elliott reminds us of what happened that first Christmas morn. The Messiah was born in Bethlehem—just like the Scriptures promised—and yet almost everyone missed it. No one gave up their bed so that pregnant Mary could give birth to the Savior of the world inside a comfortable room. No one else besides Mary, Joseph, and the stable animals were there. Bethlehem was sleeping while the Messiah was born into the world. Can that be said of us as well? Are we asleep to the fact that there’s a Savior who loves us and has come for us? Are we making room in our hearts for Him to be our Savior and Lord? Let our prayer this Christmas be, “Come be Lord of my heart, O Christ—there is room for you.” For more, visit www.sharelife.today.

Jesus, Our Emmanuel

“Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign; A virgin will conceive, and give birth to a Son, and will call Him Emmanuel, which means God with us." This prophecy from Isaiah 7 came hundreds of years before Jesus stepped foot on earth. God promised that He Himself would come to be with us. And the truth is, if Jesus never had come, we would still be dead in our sins. We would have no way to come before an all-holy God and expect to get into heaven. The Bible says clearly, "For the wages of sin is death..." But praise be to God, He had a plan. He loved us so much that He humbled Himself, took on flesh, and dwelt among us. Emmanuel. Who lived the perfect life that we couldn't, took our sins upon Himself, and died with them on the cross. Now, He offers the free gift of eternal life to anyone who puts their trust in Him. Precious Treasures From Afar

Some of the most interesting characters in the Christmas story didn't even show up right when Christ was born. The Magi are known for journeying to Jesus after seeing the star announcing His birth. In Numbers 24, there is a prophecy that "a star would come out of Jacob"—and this was speaking about both a literal star as well as pointing toward the Messiah, Jesus, who was a descendant of Jacob. The Magi waited and watched the sky for generations. And the minute they beheld the star, they gathered up precious treasures; and they traveled about two years to find the Messiah they had been waiting for. What talents and gifts has God given you? How can you use them to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel? God hasn't given us a star to communicate the Savior now—He's given His children the Holy Spirit and has commissioned us to tell others about eternal life in Him. The Greatest Gift

What’s on your Christmas list this year? Now, the Christmas season is full of family gatherings, parties, shopping, and cooking. Sometimes it may just feel like you’re drowning in holiday cheer! Well, I want to challenge you to slow down, yes, even in December, and take time for Gospel conversations. You see, while it may be the busiest time of the year, it’s also a season with a wide-open door to share the Gospel. Take advantage of the gatherings and the gift giving and share with others the greatest gift of all – a relationship with Jesus. You can start by asking someone, “What was your favorite Christmas gift as a child?” and then share with them the best gift you ever been given—forgiveness, eternal life, and joy through what Christ has done. Great Joy

Do you know what was one of the most observable characteristics of New Testament Christians? Well, they were known for sharing their faith. In Acts chapter eight, we learn that those who shared their faith experienced “great joy.” And those who received Jesus as their Savior experienced that joy too. Now, it reminds me of how the Magi saw the start showing that the King of Kings had come to earth, and they “rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.” You know, not much has really changed in our day. For those who know how to share their faith, there’s great joy in seeing someone receive the free gift of eternal life. And Scripture tells us that the Angels in Heaven rejoice too. So, if you want to know joy – real joy – tell someone about Jesus and what He’s done for you and what He’ll do for them. And then watch as the Holy Spirit begins to work. Accept the Gift

The gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ. That’s not only Good News—that’s GREAT news! This Christmas, while the traditional practice of exchanging gifts is in full swing, remember to share about the greatest gift ever given — eternal life through Jesus Christ. But, you know, you can’t share something that you don’t have. Have you received the free gift of eternal life? It’s not something that you can earn, and we certainly don’t deserve it…because, you know, we’re all sinners and our sin separates us from an all-Holy God. But the Good News is that God solved our problem by sending His Son to die on the cross to pay for our sins and purchase a place for us in Heaven. And we receive this gift by faith. If you haven’t received this gift, don’t let another Christmas go by. Accept what the Lord has offering to you this Christmas season. It's a decision you'll never regret.
