The Greatest Gift

Can you believe it's almost here? Christmas is coming! And while the Christmas season may be flying by at lightning speed for you, there is always so much anticipation around this time of year. Can you imagine the anticipation before the first Christmas? The whole world was waiting, all of Heaven was leaning in, anticipating the moment God would become man and make a way for us to be reconciled to Him. And with a baby's first cry, it was finally here! The first Christmas and the greatest gift the world would ever be given. You know, all too often, we anticipate the Christmas season, but we don't focus on the first Christmas. As you go through the next few days, make Christmas holy in your heart. Choose to think about the first Christmas and the greatest gift of all. And to celebrate what Christ has done, share the gift of the Gospel. Greater Joy

Is this the most wonderful time of the year or does the holiday season produce anxiety for you? I know that December can bring both feelings of wonder and hope as well as dread and anxiety; and in recent times, we've certainly had a roller coaster of emotions! Despite the stress, though, take heart! We have a joy greater than any season of life. We have the Living Savior who draws us near to Him, if we’ll only come. Think about eternity – is there a family member who you’ll see this week who needs Jesus? Let them see your joy and pray for opportunities to share with them. Ask God for an opportunity to share what the Christmas season is really about – His grace! The Holy Spirit is in the business of saving people, and you can be a part of that! Choosing Joy

What’s your favorite thing about the Christmas season? Many people love the cheerful music, the sweet treats, and holiday gatherings with family and friends. And whether this year has been a difficult or wonderful one for you, the joy remains the same if you know Jesus. Why is that? Because no matter what this season brings for you, Jesus is the reason you can have great joy! Spend some time over the course of the next week focusing on the joy of the season - on the joy of the Gospel! And do you know what? If you’ll do that, others will see your joy and will want it, too! Choosing joy at all times — especially in a difficult year — can open up many opportunities to share how Jesus has made all the difference in your life for eternity. Good News of Great Joy

The gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ. Do you remember the angels saying to the shepherds: “I bring you good news of great JOY?!” Well, people need that Good News. While the traditional practice of exchanging gifts is in full swing, remember to share about the greatest gift ever given — eternal life through Jesus Christ. It’s not something that we can earn and it’s certainly not something that we deserve it because we are all sinners and our sin separates us from an all Holy God. But the Good News is that God solved our problem by sending His Son to die on the cross to pay for our sins and purchase a place for us in Heaven. This gift is received by faith. If you haven’t received this gift, don’t let another Christmas go by. And if you’ve already received this gift, share it with someone else. The Best Gift

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 8:9, "...though [Jesus] was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." The wealth Paul is talking about in this passage…it isn't your finances—he's talking about the gift of eternal life. When Jesus came to this earth humbly as a baby, He traded the wealth of Heaven for the poverty of this world. But He did it so that we might become rich and have the opportunity to accept the free gift of eternal life. So this Christmas season, give the best gift of all by sharing with your friends and family Jesus. Share that Jesus came to take our poverty and adopt us as children of God. He became "obedient unto death, even death on a cross" to give us abundant and everlasting life through Him. And in response, we gratefully praise Him and share this Good News with others! Need help? Our Offerings

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
If we follow the King, we must follow His example. Our life is an offering to Him! There were Magi from the East who were looking at the sky and waiting generation after generation for a prophesied star. And the night they saw it, they set out to find the true King—the Messiah. And after years of journeying, they found a boy named Jesus—God in the flesh—dwelling here on earth among the people that He came to save. These kings bowed down and worshipped Him; they laid their offerings at His feet. And in the same way, we must be willing give our time, our comforts, our talents, and our gifts as an offering to Jesus. And just as He humbly came to share the Good News of eternal life through His death on the cross and resurrection three days later, so we too must share as He did. A King Who Serves

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
What do you think of when you hear the word servant? We read in John 13 at the Last Supper that Jesus took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Imagine...the King of kings takes the lowest position to wash the disciple's, well...feet. It says that Jesus FINISHED. This means he washed all their feet—the feet that would soon abandon him—even the feet he KNEW would soon rush to betray him. The God of the universe kneeling low, towel in hand, washing the dirty feet of sinful men. At the end of the passage Jesus says, "Slaves are not greater than their master, nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message." You see, we ARE His messengers, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. And as we go out let's remember we are not GREATER than the one who GAVE us the message. Let's follow Jesus, our servant King. The Hypostatic Union

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Something I have been pondering lately is the matchless, never-ending, wonderful love of God. As we celebrate this season of Jesus' birth, I’m reminded that the God who created the universe—and us!—gave up His glorious throne to step into this world as a man. Now don't get me wrong—Jesus is God. He’s always been one hundred percent so. At the same time, He came to earth, born as a baby… He is also one hundred percent man. This is known as the hypostatic union. And when He was born, His glory was veiled. It must have been quite difficult for Him to humbly take on flesh, but Jesus did it out of His great love for us, and His desire for God’s glory. He chose the road to the cross because He knew His perfect life must be the sacrifice for our imperfect ones. He came to live beside us and share how we can have eternal life. Humble Beginnings

On one starry night, long ago, a baby was born in a manger. The angels in the Bible describe this infant to the cowering shepherds as their "Savior... Christ the Lord!" Now, I imagine these Jewish men did not expect the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords—their Messiah!—to come as a baby. But when they went to see Jesus, lying in a manger, the Word of God says that right after they met Him, they went and told everyone what they had seen. And that’s precisely what should happen when you meet our humble Savior, who came to rescue us from our sins. You worship Him, and then go tell others about Him. So let's share the Gospel of hope that Jesus came for us. We have a resource to help you share with others about Jesus this season. Who is in My Community?

Do you remember the story Jesus told of the Good Samaritan? He told this parable to emphasize that anyone can be your neighbor. It's your job to show the love of God to anyone you meet! So who is your neighbor? Who is in your community? You may be thinking that you're not very involved in your community, but where are you connected? Do you have a gym you go to daily? A book club? Perhaps a coffee shop that you frequent? Well, those people at the gym, in your club and at your coffee shop all need to know about God’s amazing gift of salvation! It’s your job to tell them! What can you do to better represent Him and share the Gospel with those around you? Ask God to open your eyes to the community He has placed around you and ask for opportunities to share with them the love of Jesus Christ! He’ll use you in your sphere of influence.
