The Openness of America
Friday Oct 25, 2024
Friday Oct 25, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
For six decades, we at EE have been training Christians to reach the people in their life with the Gospel. And we’ve seen it transform their walk with God. And last year, through semesters and training events alone, we saw over twenty million people make professions of faith around the world. Now, before you write this off as happening only outside the USA, let me share what we’ve seen here. In 2021, we conducted a study with Lifeway Research that confirmed what we had been seeing. Sixty-six percent of Americans said that they’re open to having a spiritual conversation with a friend, and fifty-one percent said they’re open to having that same conversation with an absolute stranger! And in a recent training last month, we saw ninety percent of the people we approached (who were not already Christians) willing to talk to us—strangers—about spiritual things. Today is the day to share the Gospel here in USA! So let’s do it! Visit www.sharelife.today.

We Are All Lamplighters
Thursday Oct 24, 2024
Thursday Oct 24, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Jesus said that we are the light of the world. So, we need to become lamplighters for Him. I couldn’t put it better than Dr. Kennedy himself, describing a poem from Sir Harry Lauder: “I was sitting in the gloaming, and a man passed my window. It was the old lamplighter, and he pushed his pole into the lamp and lighted it. And then another, and another, and another. And soon, I could not see him at all, but I knew right where he was by the lamps that he lit. Ah, my friends, you’re all lamplighters. I think that’s about as beautiful a picture of the life of a witnessing Christian that I’ve ever heard. And they’ll know where ye’ve been by the lamps you have lit.” For resources to get started, visit www.sharelife.today.

Heal Our Land
Wednesday Oct 23, 2024
Wednesday Oct 23, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.” That promise from 2 Chronicles 7:14 still applies to us today. If we turn back to God, God will be faithful to forgive us and heal our land. And the primary way God wants us to come back to Him—I believe!—is through our obedience. He has given us the greatest purpose in Jesus’ final command to us here on earth, called the Great Commission. “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations...” And Jesus has given us power as we go, for the Bible tells us that that same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. So, we should not fear. We should not hide. We should proclaim with all of our hearts the greatest news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! For resources, visit our website at www.sharelife.today.

Our Victorious God

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
How many times in the history of America has God shown up and been faithful? Let’s remember the freezing and starving men that George Washington led from New York, with the large British army at their heels. Both sides thought the Revolution would die with these men. But on Christmas night, Washington led his men across the Delaware River to a surprise attack on Trenton. It took the little ragged army until 3 am to get into position, and they fought through the early morning. After seventeen hours of travel and fighting, Washington was weary. He bowed his head, asking God to deliver them. Until that hour, it looked like all hope was lost, but during his prayer, the messenger relayed that the enemy had surrendered. It is recorded that Washington “raised his eyes, with gleaming thankfulness to Heaven.” He gave God the glory for that victory. So let’s not lose heart. Let’s be a part of the change our nation needs and share the Gospel! Visit www.sharelife.today.

God’s Faithfulness to our Nation
Monday Oct 21, 2024
Monday Oct 21, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Perhaps some of us today have weary and somber hearts. It’s possible as we read countless articles and watch the daily news, we sense a darkness in our nation that appears to be overcoming all that is good and right. And I suppose those are fair thoughts and feelings for the days that we find ourselves in. But I do want to pose a question to us all today: How many times have we been here before, and what has God done? You see, to plant ourselves with strength for any storm that we might encounter, we must recall the times God has shown up and made a way for us, so we know that we can trust Him. And God has been faithful to our nation before. And God is moving now. The question is, will we be part of the change? Will we share our faith and see God transform hearts in our communities and our nation? For more on how you can share your faith, visit our website www.sharelife.today. That’s www.sharelife.today.

Death, Where Is Your Sting?
Friday Oct 18, 2024
Friday Oct 18, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
One of the hardest things that we can ever face in life is a close encounter with death. Whether it is ourself or the loss of a loved one, these are life-changing and difficult times. But God can use these very moments to draw us or others to Himself. This is exactly what happened in Barry's life. In college, he met a girl that he admired very much and always wished to meet. Well one day, she was killed in a car accident. Barry was crushed and went to the school's chapel to pray. In that moment, he knew there was something missing in his life but didn't know what it was. Then soon after, he heard the good news of the Gospel, and he put His trust in Christ. Now, he knows for certain that he has eternal life. And that’s changed everything. Sharing a testimony like this is a great way start a Gospel conversation with family and friends about the eternal hope found in Jesus. Jesus Knows Grief
Thursday Oct 17, 2024
Thursday Oct 17, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
In the famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus shared, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Jesus, as God in the flesh, knew grief as a man. He experienced loved ones die. He faced hunger and physical need. He was rejected and betrayed by the people He was close with. He felt loneliness and sadness. He was beaten and tortured in the cruelest ways before being killed on a cross for the very people He ministered to and came to save. And He did it for us, that all who put their trust in Him and what He did might be forgiven. The God of the universe came as a man and walked in our shoes. And He promises that in our deepest hurt and grief, that if we’ll turn to Him, we will be comforted. I know I want everyone to know the peace and the comfort found in knowing Jesus. So let’s share the hope of the Gospel in times of tragedy and grief. For resources, visit our website at www.sharelife.today.

Peace in the Storm
Wednesday Oct 16, 2024
Wednesday Oct 16, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Sometimes, when we face tragedy, we feel that we’ve been abandoned. These past few weeks, we at EE have faced devastation alongside thousands of others in Asheville, North Carolina. Franklin Graham, the president of Samaritan’s Purse, said, “No matter what storm you face, you need to know that God loves you. He has not abandoned you.” You see, God cares about us. He so loved the world that He sent His Son Jesus to the cross to combat the world’s poison—also known as sin. And the Bible tells us that when we place our trust in Jesus alone as our Savior, He is not only our Deliverer but also our Friend. “I lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord...” There’s a peace that He gives us even in the biggest storms of our lives because He is with us. And we have the opportunity to share that peace with others. Not sure how? Visit our website at www.sharelife.today. That’s www.sharelife.today.

True Tragedy
Tuesday Oct 15, 2024
Tuesday Oct 15, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
During the early days of EE, a young man named Jack and two of his friends were evangelism trainers at Coral Ridge who were passionate about discipling other Christians in the church. For Jack’s birthday one year, his wife Lois gifted him something that he really wanted, which was to take a hot air balloon ride with his friends. On a nice Saturday morning, they took off, but the winds blew wrong causing the pilot to lose control. The balloon crashed into power lines and the balloon burst into flames. It shot in the air with the men one thousand feet, and Lois watched Jack and his friends fall from the sky. They called it a tragedy. The next morning, Dr. Kennedy stepped into the pulpit and said, “It’s a tragedy—young men living their lives fully for God—to die young? The tragedy is when a man lives to an old age and never does anything for God.” Make your life count. For resources to help you get started, visit www.sharelife.today.

Ready for the Storm
Monday Oct 14, 2024
Monday Oct 14, 2024
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Tragedies happen...the question is, are we ready? Evangelism Explosion International is headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina, and we recently have experienced a terrible hurricane. Our community has suffered and lost so much, including many precious lives. We’ve lost power, water, roads, and cell connection. And we still have people in our community being rescued as we sort through the wreckage. It was truly a devastating storm. But what we have been seeing through it is the basic humanity of people. We naturally want community and hope when we face devastating circumstances. Especially in times like these, there’s an openness to pray with and for others, weep with them, and share the hope that we have in Jesus. As we come together and help each other—whether we are near or far from a tragedy, let’s also be ready to step in and be there for our community and share the hope of the Gospel.
