Make Room for Jesus

“Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown when Thou camest to earth for me; but in Bethlehem’s home was there found no room for Thy holy nativity.” This beautiful hymn written by Emily Elliott reminds us of what happened that first Christmas morn. The Messiah was born in Bethlehem—just like the Scriptures promised—and yet almost everyone missed it. No one gave up their bed so that pregnant Mary could give birth to the Savior of the world inside a comfortable room. No one else besides Mary, Joseph, and the stable animals were there. Bethlehem was sleeping while the Messiah was born into the world. Can that be said of us as well? Are we asleep to the fact that there’s a Savior who loves us and has come for us? Are we making room in our hearts for Him to be our Savior and Lord? Let our prayer this Christmas be, “Come be Lord of my heart, O Christ—there is room for you.” For more, visit www.sharelife.today.

Jesus, Our Emmanuel

“Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign; A virgin will conceive, and give birth to a Son, and will call Him Emmanuel, which means God with us." This prophecy from Isaiah 7 came hundreds of years before Jesus stepped foot on earth. God promised that He Himself would come to be with us. And the truth is, if Jesus never had come, we would still be dead in our sins. We would have no way to come before an all-holy God and expect to get into heaven. The Bible says clearly, "For the wages of sin is death..." But praise be to God, He had a plan. He loved us so much that He humbled Himself, took on flesh, and dwelt among us. Emmanuel. Who lived the perfect life that we couldn't, took our sins upon Himself, and died with them on the cross. Now, He offers the free gift of eternal life to anyone who puts their trust in Him. Precious Treasures From Afar

Some of the most interesting characters in the Christmas story didn't even show up right when Christ was born. The Magi are known for journeying to Jesus after seeing the star announcing His birth. In Numbers 24, there is a prophecy that "a star would come out of Jacob"—and this was speaking about both a literal star as well as pointing toward the Messiah, Jesus, who was a descendant of Jacob. The Magi waited and watched the sky for generations. And the minute they beheld the star, they gathered up precious treasures; and they traveled about two years to find the Messiah they had been waiting for. What talents and gifts has God given you? How can you use them to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel? God hasn't given us a star to communicate the Savior now—He's given His children the Holy Spirit and has commissioned us to tell others about eternal life in Him. The Greatest Gift

What’s on your Christmas list this year? Now, the Christmas season is full of family gatherings, parties, shopping, and cooking. Sometimes it may just feel like you’re drowning in holiday cheer! Well, I want to challenge you to slow down, yes, even in December, and take time for Gospel conversations. You see, while it may be the busiest time of the year, it’s also a season with a wide-open door to share the Gospel. Take advantage of the gatherings and the gift giving and share with others the greatest gift of all – a relationship with Jesus. You can start by asking someone, “What was your favorite Christmas gift as a child?” and then share with them the best gift you ever been given—forgiveness, eternal life, and joy through what Christ has done. Great Joy

Do you know what was one of the most observable characteristics of New Testament Christians? Well, they were known for sharing their faith. In Acts chapter eight, we learn that those who shared their faith experienced “great joy.” And those who received Jesus as their Savior experienced that joy too. Now, it reminds me of how the Magi saw the start showing that the King of Kings had come to earth, and they “rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.” You know, not much has really changed in our day. For those who know how to share their faith, there’s great joy in seeing someone receive the free gift of eternal life. And Scripture tells us that the Angels in Heaven rejoice too. So, if you want to know joy – real joy – tell someone about Jesus and what He’s done for you and what He’ll do for them. And then watch as the Holy Spirit begins to work. Accept the Gift

The gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ. That’s not only Good News—that’s GREAT news! This Christmas, while the traditional practice of exchanging gifts is in full swing, remember to share about the greatest gift ever given — eternal life through Jesus Christ. But, you know, you can’t share something that you don’t have. Have you received the free gift of eternal life? It’s not something that you can earn, and we certainly don’t deserve it…because, you know, we’re all sinners and our sin separates us from an all-Holy God. But the Good News is that God solved our problem by sending His Son to die on the cross to pay for our sins and purchase a place for us in Heaven. And we receive this gift by faith. If you haven’t received this gift, don’t let another Christmas go by. Accept what the Lord has offering to you this Christmas season. It's a decision you'll never regret. Faith and Christmas

A woman was walking down the sidewalk during the Christmas season and a reporter asked her, “What is the meaning of Christmas?” The woman responded, “Is that the day that Jesus died?” Well now, obviously, her answer wasn’t quite right. Christmas was not the day Jesus died but the day that we celebrate His coming to earth. But, in reality, Jesus did come to die, to give His life as a ransom for many. So, the woman’s answer was not totally incorrect. Jesus’ amazing gift to us is one to be shared. You know, we all know people who do not know God, yet they celebrate Christmas. They set up trees and exchange gifts and enjoy Christmas traditions. What a perfect time to share the true meaning of Christmas with them! Because the Christmas message isn’t just information, it’s an invitation - to come to the Savior born in a manger who offers us the free gift of eternal life. Need help in knowing where to start? Pray for Family Gatherings

Is this the most wonderful time of the year or does the holiday season produce anxiety for you? Now, I know that December can bring both feelings of wonder and hope as well as dread and anxiety. Oftentimes, family gatherings can cause stress. But you know what? We have a joy greater than any season of life! We have the Living Savior who draws us near to Him. So think about eternity – is there a family member you’ll see that needs Jesus? Well, pray fervently for this person before you see them and let them see the joy that you have in Christ. Ask God for an opportunity to share what the Christmas season is really about – His grace! The Holy Spirit is in the business of saving people. So let’s make ourselves available vessels for Him to use. Don’t be scared to share the love of Jesus. Cast your anxieties on Him because He cares for you—and the person you’re praying for! Hope Was Born

While the people of Bethlehem slept, there was a young woman, ten months pregnant, resting in a stable. She had arrived earlier that day with her husband and found that there was no room in any of the inns for them to stay. They’d come to be part of an ordered census from the Roman governor. And while the little town slumbered away that night, Mary labored and had her son, and she named Him Jesus, just as the angel had told her. He was born to save His people from their sins. And today, over two thousand years later, He’s still working a miracle in those who place their trust in His death on the cross. Jesus lived the perfect life we that couldn’t and died the death we should have to save us from our sins. Where is Your Hope?

What are you placing your hope in right now? Your investments, your job, your family? You know, all of those things may provide some comfort in the short term, but there is only one lasting hope that we can count on, and that is the Person of Jesus Christ. Take Kenny, for example. He shared his testimony with us on whats my story dot org about how Jesus changed his life. He said, "I was filled with bitterness. My life was a complete ruin. In the midst of this, a friend I had just met invited me to church. For the first time, I heard that even though I didn’t deserve it and in spite of anything I’d done, I could be forgiven and inherit eternal life. That night, I received[...]hope in the midst of hopelessness!” That can be our story as well! All we must do is place our trust in Jesus and Him alone, the Author of our hope.
