Reaching Our Neighbors For Christ

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Are you hesitant to share the Gospel with your neighbors? You know, one day, as my wife and I were out on a walk, a boy who lived next door joined us and told us his mother had moved out earlier that day. Well, it broke my heart. When I saw his father on their porch, I worked up the courage to walk up and tell Bill how sorry I was to hear this. And then I shared that Jesus is the most important thing to me, He had changed my life, giving me peace and comfort during difficult times. Well, Bill looked at me and said, “…you’re a liar.” He said, “You’re my friend, and you’ve lived next to me for five years. You’ve never told me about Jesus!" Well, you know, I had to apologize to Bill for not sharing the Good News sooner. And soon, Bill gave his heart to Jesus. His wife did, too; and they are happily married today. Hospitality and the Gospel

Are you one of those people who get excited to host over the holidays? Does that fill your heart with joy? If I can be honest, I am not naturally one of those people. But you know what? It is an incredible gift that God calls us—both introverts and extroverts—to be hospitable to others by making time for them. It's through our lives that the people closest to us can see Jesus; and often times, it gives us opportunities to share the greatest gift of all—the Good News of the Gospel. So how do we begin? Simply, start with people you know. Invite a few friends to a dinner party, a co-worker for a cup of coffee, or some neighbors to join you for a Bible study in your home. Be open and real. Share your story, and listen to theirs. Allow them to ask questions. Be honest if you don’t know the answers, but promise to follow up later. Share the Gospel in a simple, easy-to-understand manner. Invite Them In

Did you know that the disciples often gathered in their homes, interacting with those who didn’t know Christ? The Bible says in Acts two that “every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." People were coming to know Christ every single day. Isn’t that amazing? But how did that happen? Unbelievers heard the Gospel and saw it in action. It’s that simple. Hospitality is not something that we do if we have extra time – it’s what we’re called to do if we’re called Christians. Our homes don’t have to be perfect, and we don’t have to be flawless. But when others enter our homes and lives, they see first-hand how the Gospel affects us, which gives us an opportunity to share it with them. Making Time

The holidays are a wonderful time for families to remember the many blessings in our lives. We invite family and friends into our homes for a special meal. We create a warm and welcoming environment and openly share what we are thankful for. It is also a wonderful time to share what Christ personally has done for us. But we can also make time in our lives to invite others to join us throughout the year as a way to share the Gospel. Each of us have a network of relationships within our families, our jobs, our neighbors, our schools, and yes even our social networks that create opportunities to begin spiritual conversations. God desires to reach into the lives of those who are close to us so that they too may be brought into His forever family. So how do you begin? Invite a colleague out for a cup of coffee or video chat a family member or friend. Ask them about their life and share how Christ has changed yours through the Gospel. Thankful Every Day

So Thanksgiving is now over, and we move on to a new season...but did you know that our gratitude should continue? You can know from even a simple search online how being thankful each day can benefit us both mentally and physically. But that's not what I'm talking about. As Christians, we're thankful each and every day because God doesn’t change. Whether it's Thanksgiving where we're focused on being grateful for how He has provided for us or the week after where we go back to our "normal" way of life, we should be grateful. Because you know what? God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow—and His love for us continues each new day. And we can share our gratitude with others by telling them what Jesus has done for them on the cross! So let's make it a priority to be thankful each and every day. Family Tradition

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
What kind of traditions do you have? Maybe you always make egg salad for family reunions, or play football on Thanksgiving. Maybe you grew up going to church every Sunday like Lara. In fact, it wasn't only Sunday morning church, it was Sunday evening, Wednesday night, really, anytime the doors were open. As a result, she grew up knowing about Jesus and was your traditional good, 'Christian kid.' If you asked her about her faith, she would tell you that her mother told her that she led Lara in a prayer of salvation at only five years old. But one day, Lara realized that wasn't going to be good enough. At church one night, her youth pastor explained that salvation is a personal decision. He said that your parents won't stand with you before God. It will only be you and God. Right then, she made the decision to put her faith in Christ, not her mother's words! Faith and Thanksgiving

Faith and thanksgiving go hand-in-hand. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for families to remember the many blessings that God has bestowed upon all of us, especially God’s grace through Jesus Christ. This special holiday provides natural opportunities to share the Gospel. Here’s a few ideas as you prepare for the holiday: first, invite family members to a Thanksgiving service at your church. Or when you ask others what they’re most thankful for, share how you’re thankful for your relationship with God. This would be a perfect opportunity for you to share your testimony of how He has impacted your life. If you dine out for Thanksgiving, ask your server how you can pray for them before saying grace over your meal. Then you could leave a Gospel tract with your tip. Thankful Right Now

In a year full of twists and turns with uncertainty abounding, I am so thankful for the certain hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Are you thankful for that, too? Instead of focusing on what’s gone wrong and how many things have changed, fix your eyes on Jesus, who never changes. Hear this reminder from Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Did you hear that? In EVERY situation, yes even right now, we can be thankful and Jesus will give you the peace you need. So, as we go into the holiday season, be thankful in all the circumstances that you’ve been given the free gift of eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ. Thankful Prayer

When you woke up this morning, did you thank God? You know, we as Christians don't thank God enough, do we? As Christians, we're of course thankful for the life God has given us, but we probably take a lot for granted. It's easy to get into a routine and go through the motions without thinking, "hey! God gave me this day, this life!" Prayer and thankfulness are incredibly important in our Christian walk. Let's be more intentional to tell God how thankful we are for who He is and what He has done! I have a challenge for you. Every day this week, before you get out of bed in the morning, take a couple minutes to just thank God. First, thank Him for who He is. Thank Him for His grace and love and for giving you eternal life. Focus on how good He is at the start of everyday and watch how that will change your outlook — and your life! Every Testimony Matters

Every testimony is important. For some of us, we came to have a relationship with Christ later on in life. We have a clear "before" and "after" when Jesus came into our hearts. But did you know, this is not the only testimony that God uses? If you grew up knowing Jesus from a very young age, I want you to know that your story matters too. It's often thought that these are "less powerful" than ones full of drastic and sudden change. However, it’s just not the case at all! You have a lifetime of stories sharing the benefits of having a relationship with Christ. Chris grew up in the church and was saved at a very young age. When he experienced a huge betrayal in his life, Jesus gave him the peace that passes all understanding. It brought Chris through that difficult situation where it would be easy to give up to despair. And he knows from Christ's promises in His Word that he’ll be in heaven for eternity.
