Seventy Years Old

One of the beautiful things about the church is that it is a very diverse group of people. In heaven, there will be every tribe, every tongue, every nation represented. And here on earth, the church not only spans every continent and country, but also every age group. And this is a good thing. Those who are more developed in their spiritual walk are called to mentor and disciple those younger than them — just like Paul did with Timothy. For Chong Sok Nah from Malaysia, he caught this vision and attended the very first Mandarin online training to disciple generations X and Y in how to share the Gospel. At seventy years old, he faithfully followed God's calling and learned how to teach and disciple young people over the internet. And during that training alone, they led seventeen people to Christ. Asta’s Discipleship

"One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” This powerful verse from the Psalms imparts to us an important truth: we are to tell generations younger than us about God's power. Whether it's reading the Scriptures with them or sharing testimonies of what God has done in our lives, we can pour into Christians younger than us. And in a case like Asta's, this can be life-changing. Asta is a teenager in Indonesia who was encouraged by his mentor to be a part of a Hope For Kid's training, so that he could disciple a child younger than him in how to share the Gospel. Asta said, "I [...] am now able to share the Good News, and I was very blessed to practice it in the field. I will continue to develop!" Discipled and Discipling

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Mark Dever says, "The Christian life is the discipled life and the discipling life.” We need both to grow a healthy, full walk with Christ. So let's take our time to study the Word, pray without ceasing, fellowship with other Christians, worship our amazing, Living God, and share our faith with others. And even better if these things happen under a mentor who has walked with God longer than us! This will set us on a path of being discipled. And then, we ourselves are called to reach out and disciple someone else. This could look like us sharing the Gospel, seeing someone give their life to Christ, and then walking with them in spiritual growth as a new believer. I can personally tell you — experiencing this lights a fire in the soul and an excitement and joy in your walk with Christ! The Great Commission’s Focus

The focus of Jesus’ Great Commission is not in making converts, but rather in making disciples. This was the mark of His ministry on earth, and this is the mark of the mentors we need in the Church today. So, please don't hear me wrong. It is absolutely vital that we share our faith and that everyone gets an opportunity to hear the Gospel. But once they do make a decision to give their life to Christ, we want to equip and disciple them as a new believer. We can't just leave them were they're at and carry on with our lives! It's important for us to give the new believer a track to run on — as Paul modeled for us throughout the New Testament when he encourages believers to run the race and keep the faith. We have the privilege of being disciple-makers across the generations. And it starts with our willingness to share the Gospel. Pray To Save

Who do you want to see come to know Jesus? Do you have a name? Are you praying for that person? Have you gotten another believer to pray for them with you? A few years ago, the youth pastor at my church became intentional in discipling teenagers to pray for their lost friends. The ministry started praying just for over 140 people; and in just the first two months, eighteen of those friends came to a saving faith in Jesus! That’s the power of praying together for the lost! Can you imagine what would happen in the lives of the lost ones that you love if you would get together with other believers to pray for them? A praying heart is also a heart open to sharing the Gospel, so do both as the Lord leads you and watch as He moves mountains to save the lost and hurting. Break the Gates

How often are you praying for the lost? Are you praying for God to send someone to share with them? And if you're not praying for opportunities to share the Gospel, you're missing the greatest joy of your Christian life! Sharing the Gospel truly is a gift from God. So, who are you praying for to come to saving faith in Jesus? Pray for the opportunity to share the Gospel with them. Pray for their heart and mind to be open to the Gospel and pray that you would be ready to share with them when the time comes. A book called the Essentials of Prayer by E.M. Bounds says, "A person who can pray is the mightiest instrument that Christ has in this world. A praying Church is stronger than all the gates of hell." So, if you're wanting to break the gates of hell and bring someone to saving faith in Jesus, start with prayer. Jesus Prayed for the Lost

Do you realize that Jesus prayed for you? You might be thinking...what did He pray? Well, on the night of His arrest before Calvary, Jesus prayed this: "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world." This is God's great mission! Right before Jesus was arrested, brutally beaten and killed, He prayed for the lost. He prayed that people would come to know Him - to be with Him in Heaven one day. Are you doing this? Are you praying for the lost? If you're not, let me encourage you to start today. Write down ten names of family, friends, or coworkers who don't yet know Jesus and begin to pray for their salvation daily. Pray For Them

Who are you praying for? Now, I'm sure that if you know Jesus, you pray regularly for your family and friends, and maybe even some people that you don't personally know. But, are you praying for the lost? The Lord puts a burden on our hearts for others, and He hears our prayers...so if you're praying for the lost, watch with expectation — He will honor your prayers. Pray that those who don't yet know Christ that they will hear God's Word and be receptive to it. Pray that they will be given the opportunity to accept the grace of Jesus. And also, when you pray for nonbelievers, don't forget to pray for believers to be raised up to share the Gospel with them. Matthew 9 says the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the field...and then be willing to BE one of those workers! Love Not Judge

"We can’t be judges, we’ve got to be the equippers." Lynn Turner, a pastor in Oklahoma City who works closely with EE's Prison Ministry, shared with us that he wants the church to make an impact on their city and to do whatever it takes to be a light for Christ in the community. So, how are you being a light for Christ? Are you letting the judgment of others cloud your witness? The truth is, Jesus wants you to witness. He invites us into His Kingdom work so that we can make an impact on others with His love. And it’s not our job to say that someone shouldn't be told about the grace of Jesus - it's only our job to tell! Lynn Turner’s church, for the past nine years, has been making strides in the community to be the hands and feet of Jesus, even as they train prisoners in evangelism and equip them to share God's grace! Every Testimony is Important

Every testimony is important. For some of us, we came to have a relationship with Christ later in life. We have a clear "before" and "after" story about when Jesus came into our heart. But did you know, this is not the only testimony that God uses? If you grew up knowing Jesus from a very young age, your story matters too. Your testimony is full of power, because you have a lifetime of stories to share about the benefits of having a relationship with Jesus. For instance, Sarah recently wrote one of perhaps many God stories that she has on what's my story dot org. She wrote that she asked Jesus to come into her heart at a very young age and grew up in a family that openly loved God. As she’s gotten older, her relationship with Christ has grown significantly.
