Family Tradition

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
What kind of traditions do you have? Maybe you always make egg salad for family reunions, or play football on Thanksgiving. Maybe you grew up going to church every Sunday like Lara. In fact, it wasn't only Sunday morning church, it was Sunday evening, Wednesday night, really, anytime the doors were open. As a result, she grew up knowing about Jesus and was your traditional good, 'Christian kid.' If you asked her about her faith, she would tell you that her mother told her that she led Lara in a prayer of salvation at only five years old. But one day, Lara realized that wasn't going to be good enough. At church one night, her youth pastor explained that salvation is a personal decision. He said that your parents won't stand with you before God. It will only be you and God. Right then, she made the decision to put her faith in Christ, not her mother's words! Faith and Thanksgiving

Faith and thanksgiving go hand-in-hand. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for families to remember the many blessings that God has bestowed upon all of us, especially God’s grace through Jesus Christ. This special holiday provides natural opportunities to share the Gospel. Here’s a few ideas as you prepare for the holiday: first, invite family members to a Thanksgiving service at your church. Or when you ask others what they’re most thankful for, share how you’re thankful for your relationship with God. This would be a perfect opportunity for you to share your testimony of how He has impacted your life. If you dine out for Thanksgiving, ask your server how you can pray for them before saying grace over your meal. Then you could leave a Gospel tract with your tip. Thankful Right Now

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
In a year full of twists and turns with uncertainty abounding, I am so thankful for the certain hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Are you thankful for that, too? Instead of focusing on what’s gone wrong and how many things have changed, fix your eyes on Jesus, who never changes. Hear this reminder from Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Did you hear that? In EVERY situation, yes even right now, we can be thankful and Jesus will give you the peace you need. So, as we go into the holiday season, be thankful in all the circumstances that you’ve been given the free gift of eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ. Thankful Prayer

When you woke up this morning, did you thank God? You know, we as Christians don't thank God enough, do we? As Christians, we're of course thankful for the life God has given us, but we probably take a lot for granted. It's easy to get into a routine and go through the motions without thinking, "hey! God gave me this day, this life!" Prayer and thankfulness are incredibly important in our Christian walk. Let's be more intentional to tell God how thankful we are for who He is and what He has done! I have a challenge for you. Every day this week, before you get out of bed in the morning, take a couple minutes to just thank God. First, thank Him for who He is. Thank Him for His grace and love and for giving you eternal life. Focus on how good He is at the start of everyday and watch how that will change your outlook — and your life! Every Testimony Matters

Every testimony is important. For some of us, we came to have a relationship with Christ later on in life. We have a clear "before" and "after" when Jesus came into our hearts. But did you know, this is not the only testimony that God uses? If you grew up knowing Jesus from a very young age, I want you to know that your story matters too. It's often thought that these are "less powerful" than ones full of drastic and sudden change. However, it’s just not the case at all! You have a lifetime of stories sharing the benefits of having a relationship with Christ. Chris grew up in the church and was saved at a very young age. When he experienced a huge betrayal in his life, Jesus gave him the peace that passes all understanding. It brought Chris through that difficult situation where it would be easy to give up to despair. And he knows from Christ's promises in His Word that he’ll be in heaven for eternity. John’s Story

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.” Well, I’ve learned that you actually can if you have a salt tablet. And for us as Christians, our testimonies are salt tablets. Your salty testimony can make non-Christians thirsty for the water of life. There are at least a couple of key elements to an effective testimony: What was your life like before you received eternal life; how did you receive it, and now that you have it, what’s your life been like since? Allow me to share a brief version of mine:  Before I had eternal life I was absolutely afraid of dying. Then someone shared with me the greatest news about how I could have eternal life and it changed me. I no longer fear death.  I’ve had that confidence ever since and I know that if I died today, I’d go to be with God in Heaven. You can read the rest of it on www.whatsmystory.org. A Lasting Love

Revelation 12:11 says that we will defeat the enemy by “the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.” That kind of power shouldn't be hidden—your story should be shared boldly! Jesus will use it as you tell of His goodness and love to those around you. This is exactly what’s happening in Sharon's life. Before she had a relationship with Jesus, her existence was dark. She always felt isolated and alone. Sharon looked to friendships to find fulfillment, but nothing ever stuck as she never made any new, long-lasting relationships. But then, she received the free gift of eternal life, and now she knows she is never alone! Sharon feels the peace and love that comes from Jesus living in her heart, and she has found a genuine and lasting community in her church. And she just can't keep it to herself! A Powerful Tool

Do you realize that you have an extremely powerful tool that can help bring people to saving faith in Jesus Christ? It’s your testimony! And they come in all shapes and sizes, but what they have in common is that they tell of God's faithfulness and grace in each of our lives. Take Kevin, for example. Before he had eternal life, he had no purpose. To him, all there was to life was pain and finally death, and he was just along for the ride. But one day, he raised his hand in church expressing that he had no idea where he would go when he died. After the service, Kevin went up to the altar where someone shared what Jesus did for him on the cross. And guess what? He received Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and everything began to change! Now, he has not only found purpose in sharing his faith with others, but he also knows that God has plans for his life. What a difference! Your Story

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Do you realize that God has given you a story to tell? We often refer to it as a testimony but I prefer to call it “your story.” If you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, your story of how God saved you and changed you counts. I hope that’s obvious to you. But as I travel the world, I’m often amazed at how many Christians don’t think their story counts for much of anything. I hope you’re not one of those people who thinks their story is lackluster or “no big deal” because that just doesn’t line-up with Scripture. In Revelation 12:11, it says, “And they have defeated him (meaning Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.” According to that verse, your testimony is an incredibly valuable and powerful witnessing tool. Carry Your Cross

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Hudson Taylor said even though he endured great hardships and tragedies in his lifelong mission work in China, "I never made a sacrifice." He counted all the riches of this world (or even the basic comforts) as a loss in gratitude for Jesus' sacrifice. In Matthew sixteen, Jesus told His disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." You see, we carry our crosses in gratitude to Jesus! And through the hardships, we tell others the Good News of the Gospel. In Lebanon, a family came to know Jesus. And when the people of their village heard, they started persecuting them. But both they and the Christians who led them to Jesus started sharing about Christ, and the village deemed that their faith was not dangerous and accepted them with peace.
