Imparting Important Skills

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
As we look at what it means to spiritually multiply this week, let's start with a very important question: what are some of the qualities and skills that we want to impart to others? Just like Paul raised up Timothy in the ways of the faith, we too want to impart important, Biblical truths to newer believers. First, we want to encourage those we mentor to make witnessing a way of life. And they will confidently share if we’ll teach them how. The ability to explain the Gospel clearly and lead a person in commitment to Jesus is very important. Second, we want them to have a loving and caring attitude toward the lost—that they would see others the way that God sees them. And finally, it wouldn't be spiritual multiplication if they didn't catch the desire and ability to train others, just as we are training them. The Making of a Mentor

What is spiritual multiplication, and why is it important? In second Timothy two two, Paul writes, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to train others..." When we share the Gospel and disciple others, we start this important multiplication process. Our spiritual journey isn't finished when we come to know Christ as our Savior. In fact, it’s only the beginning! And it is our responsibility and privilege to tell others the Gospel and help them spiritually grow in their walk. And as more and more believers come to faith in Christ and then grow in their relationship with Him, they too will take up the call of sharing with and discipling others. The old saying goes, "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime." It is better to train a soul-winner than to merely win a soul! Vincent’s Story

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Today, I want to tell you about Vincent Wanjala. He started as a field worker with EE in 1998 and hails from Kenya. Now, I remember distinctly in 2014 when Vincent boarded a boat to the remote island off the coast of Africa. On the island, Vincent and his EE team faced tough conditions in order to hold a weeklong evangelism training. Vincent told me later, “What was important was not the dangerous boat ride, threatening rains or sleepless mosquito nights, but the many people that made professions of faith in Jesus Christ that week.” You know today, Vincent has served twenty-five years in ministry and personally trained over fifteen thousand pastors how to disciple Christians to share the Gospel. Only God knows how many millions of people have come to saving faith in Jesus through the work of this faithful servant. This is a testimony of the power and result behind God’s calling! Yuen-Woh’s Story

This week, as we talk about the team of harvesters God has raised up for the Gospel to go forth, I’d be remiss if I didn't share with you a few of the many amazing leaders we have been blessed with at Evangelism Explosion. Reverend Yuen-Woh Voon is our Vice President for Asia and spends his time, energy, and talents raising up leaders and trainers to equip the Asian church to share the Gospel. And it’s not an easy task—Asia has 44% of all the people groups of the world. And of these seven thousand people groups, 73% are unreached. Reverend Voon and the national ministries are striving to disciple local churches in Asia to share their faith, and some of these congregations are in some of the toughest places in the world to be a Christian. And yet, they’re seeing God's faithfulness. So please! Be in prayer for our brothers- and sisters-in-Christ in Asia and for Reverend Voon. The Call

Do you know that you’ve been called by God to missions? Now, you might be thinking, "John, I support missionaries, but I couldn't be one!" EE’s founder, Dr. D. James Kennedy, wanted desperately to be a missionary to Africa. He tried so hard to be placed there; but at the last minute, he was told that due to health reasons he couldn't go. He realized he couldn't be a missionary overseas. God instead led him to pastor a tiny little church plant in Florida where God gave him an outline and program to help disciple His congregation to share their faith. And in 1996, that discipleship program had traveled to every single nation on the earth, and the Gospel was changing lives. God fulfilled the call that he placed on Dr. Kennedy's heart in a way he never expected. And you know, God will use you the same way. The Great Divide

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Think about the closest relationship that you have. Whether it's your spouse, sibling, parent, or friend, what’s the biggest conflict that happened between you? The truth is that sometimes we don't even see eye to eye with those we’re closest to. And the same principle happens in church. Because each of us are unique, we complete the beautiful body of Christ and help it grow in love and impact—furthering God's kingdom here on earth. But if we let our differences breed conflict, then we’re letting the enemy win. Satan rejoices when God's children turn on each other. First Corinthians sixteen encourages us to "stand firm in the faith; and be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love." Unity is realizing that despite our differences, we as Christians have one important thing in common: we put our trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone for salvation. We Need Each Other

As a body of Christ, we need each other. Paul was very clear when he wrote in Ephesians 4:16 that we’re "joined and held together by every supporting ligament, [which] grows and builds itself up in love, with each one doing its work." As a global community of believers, we’re charged by Christ to work together and fulfill the purpose He left us with: "Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations..." Now I, for one, am so grateful for the team Christ has given us at EE. While we come from different cultures, countries, and backgrounds and have different strengths, God has brought us together to disciple Christians to share their faith. And you know what? God has also given you a unique gift that you bring to the church to make His love known. So let's persevere together and fulfill Jesus' last command! Led by the Spirit

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells His disciples, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.” This important verse teaches us something—we must be led by the Spirit. In fact, sharing the Gospel without the Holy Spirit's help would be pure folly. It is the Spirit that moves in people's hearts in regards to salvation. We have the blessing of being the messenger; but in and of ourselves, we can’t save anyone. Only God can do that. It is so important that we ask the Holy Spirit to lead and to guide us. And in His power, we can be God's witnesses and take the Gospel to the very ends of the earth. Let's share as God has commissioned us and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us! A Confident Witness

Have you ever desired to start a spiritual conversation with a family member or friend, but you found you didn't know what to say? You know what…you’re in good company! In a recent study we did with Lifeway, we found that while eighty percent of Christians say that their Christian faith impacts every aspect of their everyday life, only thirty-eight percent have shared the Gospel with a family member or friend in the past six months. Why, you might ask? Well, one of the biggest factors is that they do not know how to clearly share the Gospel. Twenty-three-year-old Anabel from Peru shared with us this testimony of being trained to share her faith. She said, "I am very happy I learned [...] to share the Gospel and have more confidence on how to connect and guide a spiritual conversation." The Task

Jesus gave us a very clear and important task to do: “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation." And let me encourage you today — ministries around the world who have partnered in seeing the world reached with the Gospel are thinking that the Great Commission could be fulfilled as early as 2033! But, you know, it takes all of us as the body of Christ doing the task Jesus has given us. The Great Commission is not simply a church program. It's not just a few verses left for us. It is the purpose and the calling of every believer who has put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior.
