Use Words

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
"Preach the Gospel at all times; when necessary, use words.” Now, I've heard this famous quote over the years, and frankly it's silly if you think about it. In fact, I've seen this not work in my own life. When I lived in Nebraska, I had a neighbor I was good friends with. I did all sort of nice things for him, hoping he would see the way I lived was for Jesus. But if I would've died, Bill would have thought, “Wow, John was a really nice guy. I wish I could be more like John." And that wasn't the message I was trying to get across at all!! Saving faith is made up of knowledge, assent, and trust. And in order to know the Gospel, someone has to share it with you; and then you can agree with it and then put your trust in it. Divine Appointments

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
The Holy Spirit is softening and drawing hearts to Himself each and every day. And we can be a part of His work. One of the very best ways to join the Holy Spirit is by praying for what we like to call “Divine Appointments.” I can’t tell you how many times He has led me a person who was waiting for someone to share the Gospel with them. In Arizona, I met a twenty-one-year-old named Raymond who was waiting at a bus stop. He told me that he was in a recovery program that talked about God but hadn’t shared much about Him. Raymond was sitting there wondering how he could find out more when we walked up. With tears in his eyes, he accepted Christ after hearing the Gospel and said, “Thank you! Be Intentional

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Picture yourself in heaven with the glory of God before you. Every person is there for the judgement. You look across the crowd and see one of your closest friends there. You know they haven't made a personal decision to follow Christ. Now I don't know about you, but for me there is literally nothing that anyone could say to me that would be harder to hear than these words, "Why didn't you tell me?  I thought we were friends..."
So, now we try. That doesn't mean it’s easy! Sometimes it's a real struggle to find a way to share with our neighbors. But our question if the week is this: What can we do to share Jesus with our neighbors? And the answer is ultimately a simple one: Be intentional. Share the Gospel with them. But just because it's simple, doesn't mean that it's not hard. However, it is the fulfillment of what Christ told us when He said that we should love our neighbor as ourselves. Respond with Jesus

Do you ever get nervous about sharing the Gospel? Well by getting prepared with a few simple tips, we can speak the Gospel with confidence! One of today's tips is to address questions. Even though we may hear difficult questions in a spiritual conversation, we don’t need to fear them. Answer them as quickly as possible, and then return the focus to the Gospel. Now here’s the thing…if you don’t know the answer, be honest; let them know you will find out. And remember to always return with an answer if you promise to do so. And after either answering their questions or promising to do so, share the Gospel with them. And be ready to lead them in taking the next step of receiving the free gift of eternal life. Because the truth is, when you share your faith, people will respond. Explain that what they must do is place their trust in Jesus Christ alone. Simply Ask

A lot of us have fears when it comes to sharing our faith. For many, it’s the thought of saying the wrong thing. If we stumble over our words or something doesn't come out exactly the way we want it, we think that God won't use it. Well, not at all! The Bible shows us time and time again that God can use anyone, even someone who stutters, like Moses, or a long-winded preacher, like Paul! And one of the best ways to break the ice into a spiritual conversation is to simply ask. Asking someone if they've given much thought to spiritual matters, or if they're sure they're going to Heaven one day might be bold, but it gives the other person a chance to really consider their heart condition. Be prayerful about witnessing and trust the Lord to give you the words to speak. He will be faithful to do it! Church Icebreaker

Can you think of a time when you put your foot in your mouth? I mean, everyone can recall a moment they wanted to blend in with the wall behind them because of something they said. We're all human—it happens! But we don't want that to happen when we share the Gospel. So today, I'd like to share an icebreaker that may be the easiest way to start a spiritual conversation! So one of the easiest ways to start is by bringing up something you've done recently at church. Sharing with somebody how much you love your church and asking them whether or not they go to church is really simple. And it’s an easy follow-up then to say, "Church is important to me because that's where I learned about how I can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Can I tell you about how that’s changed my life?" Now, you’re going be surprised by how many times you will hear "yes!" People genuinely want to know what’s important to us. Death, Where Is Your Sting?

One of the hardest things that we can ever face in life is a close encounter with death. Whether it is ourself or the loss of a loved one, these are life-changing and difficult times. But God can use these very moments to draw us or others to Himself. This is exactly what happened in Barry's life. In college, he met a girl that he admired very much and always wished to meet. Well one day, she was killed in a car accident. Barry was crushed and went to the school's chapel to pray. In that moment, he knew there was something missing in his life but didn't know what it was. Then soon after, he heard the good news of the Gospel, and he put His trust in Christ. Now, he knows for certain that he has eternal life. And that’s changed everything. Sharing a testimony like this is a great way start a Gospel conversation with family and friends about the eternal hope found in Jesus. On a Scale from 1 to 10

Let me ask you a question...on a scale from one to ten, how fulfilling would you say your life is? What makes it that number? And would having more of a relationship with God make that number go up or down? These are some really impactful questions we can use when talking with our family and friends about God. They’re opportunities for them to share about their lives and their thoughts on having a relationship with Christ. I have to tell you...I've asked these questions a lot. And most of the time, people share with me that they think having more of a relationship with God would actually make their life more fulfilled. And I get to tell them that Jesus Himself said that in John 10:10, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." The evidence is in my very own life! That certainly happened to me. God Stories

Have you ever been unsure on how to start sharing the Gospel? Maybe you are ready to talk about spiritual things with the people in your life, but you're just not sure how to bring it up. Well today I’d like to share with you some “springboards” that can help you start a spiritual conversation. One of the best ways to begin is by telling our friends how having a relationship with Christ has changed us for the better. We call these “God stories.” And the more we walk with Christ, the more of these stories we have to share! Start by telling them something you have seen God do in your life, like a change that He's brought about, an answered prayer, or even a restored relationship. End your God story with a confident statement that you have concerning Heaven and eternal life. And this will open the door to sharing more! God’s Kingdom Here On Earth

In the famous Lord's Prayer, we read, "Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." What would God's kingdom here on earth look like? Well, we would have to take a look at heaven first to answer that. Heaven is described as having every tribe, every tongue, every nation praising and glorifying the Lord Almighty. How can we mirror that here on earth? The ones who praise God are the ones who know Him. The ones who bring Him glory are the ones who have decided to live for Him. And there are still many who have yet to even hear the Good News of the Gospel. So how do we bring God's kingdom here on earth? Well, we boldly share the Good News of how Jesus came and died so that we may have life in Him. And as others gain a relationship with our Lord and Savior, they too can bring Him glory and praise.
