Jesus is our Refuge

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear..." These powerful verses from Psalm forty-six remind us of a key truth found throughout God's Word—when we become a child of God, Jesus is our refuge. In fact, the last thing Jesus told His disciples before He ascended into heaven was, "...surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." There may be many things we fear or battle. But today, I want to encourage you: Find your refuge in Jesus. He will be your Rock, your Fortress, your Bulwark when storms come your way. You can rest in Him. And knowing this important truth changes everything. It gives us the strength to do what Jesus asked His disciples to do before He told them He will always be with them: "Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations..." Jesus is our Healer

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
In the New Testament, Jesus performs miracle after miracle, healing on the lame, the sick, and the blind. He even raised His friend Lazarus from the dead! Christ has the power to heal us physically; but, you know, the biggest miracle of all is that Jesus can also heal us spiritually. Psalms 103 says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not his benefits, He forgives all of our iniquity, who heals all of our disease..." Physical illness is one of the awful side effects of sin coming into the world in the Garden of Eden. And the curse of sin has caused this world and everything in it to decay. But Jesus has compassion for the sick and the hurting. Through His death on the cross, He offers anyone who puts their trust wholly, firmly in Him healing from their sin and complete healing one day in Heaven. Jesus is our Lord

When we share our faith with another person, it's always important to ask not only if they want to accept Jesus as their Savior but also as their Lord. After Jesus' resurrection, He appeared to His disciples before ascending into Heaven and told them in, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me." You see, Jesus is God—He is part of the trinity—and as such, He has dominion and power over everything. And, you know, we should find security that our all-powerful, almighty God has this authority in our lives. You know, I always find it helpful to picture driving a car. When Jesus comes into our life, we don't give Him the passenger seat or the back seat or the trunk! If He is truly our Lord, we need to ask Him to sit in the driver's seat and drive. Jesus is our Savior

In Matthew 16:13-16, Jesus had asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” Well, they replied that some thought he was one of the prophets. And when Jesus asked them who they thought He was, Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And you know, to this day, people are still asking that very question: "Who is Jesus?" And being that Jesus is God, the answer to that question is too big to answer in one minute or an hour or a day. But today, I'd like to start with this: that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. He came from Heaven to earth, lived an absolutely perfect life, and died on the cross for our sins. He rose from the dead, and is in Heaven now, offering the free gift of eternal life to anyone who will put their full trust in Him. Jesus is our Savior! “Come Tell Us About God!”

When you have a personal encounter with the risen Savior, everything changes. What matters to us is different. What we spend our time doing changes. Jesus commissioned us before he ascended into heaven, "Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations!" And we need to be about the Father's business now, before it's too late! Ron was a missionary and went out with his team to a very remote village in Nigeria. And they saw five elderly men sitting on a wall, and one of the men said, "Come tell us about God!” Ron joyfully shared the Gospel with them. And that day, all five men prayed to receive Jesus and the gift of eternal life. Afterwards, one of the men asked Ron, “How long have you known about this Jesus?” Well, Ron started to count up the number of years. And then the next question was like a spear through Ron’s heart. “Why did you wait so long to come?” Let me encourage you, friend—today is the day to share the Gospel! A Natural Response

What is the natural response to a Savior who loves us so much that He came to earth as a baby, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, rose again from the dead, and is in Heaven right now offering us the free gift of eternal life? Well, it's to tell others about Him! When we put our trust in Jesus, He gives us new life because of His resurrected one! And out of gratitude, we should be always be ready to pray, give, and share the Gospel with others. This is exactly what happened in Ron's life. When Christ called him to go do the impossible through a call to Africa, He challenged him to reach every nation with the Gospel. And he said..."You Want Me To Do What?!?" And yet he responded in gratitude and obedience, and stepped out in faith. And you know what? You can you do the same this week where we celebrate Jesus' resurrection. The Resurrection and the Life

This week is one of my favorite weeks of the year. Why? Because it reminds us of a wonderful truth from the Word of God: Jesus is the resurrection and the life. There’re so many things on this earth that have been corrupted by sin such as sickness, loneliness, anxiety, depression, death...the list could go on and on. But you know what? Jesus has brought us life. Through His resurrection, He has brought freedom and hope to us that combats these things. Jesus works miracles every day in that He takes dead hearts and calls them to life. When we put our faith in Him, we are made alive! A Dangerous Prayer

Jesus is alive! He’s risen! And you know what that means? Our risen Savior has power over death and sin. And when we put our trust in Him, the Word of God says that same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us! And it changes us from the inside out. For Ron, the change caused him to begin to pray dangerous prayers. Do you know what do I mean by dangerous prayers? Well, after being a Christian for two years, Ron prayed, "Lord, I’ll do anything You want me to do, I’ll be anything You want me to be — I’ll go anywhere You want me to go." And guess what? God answered his prayer and called him into full-time ministry. God has called Ron to Africa, where millions have heard the Gospel through his ministry there. His death was the sacrifice for our sins and He gives us His perfect righteousness when we put our faith fully only in Him. And now, we have a relationship with God that has us on a journey of sanctification — where He is changing us from the inside out. As you share with others how your decision to put your faith in Jesus has impacted your life, you’ll gain opportunities to tell them the Good News of the Gospel. Beginning Discipleship

If you know Jesus, you know that salvation is just the beginning of a lifetime leaning on your Savior. God is not finished with us yet! There are five means of spiritual growth that every Christian needs, and I encourage you to come alongside another believer to help them in their walk with Christ. The first is to read your Bible daily! Even just a chapter a day. Start with the Gospel of John and go from there. Secondly, prayer is vital for spiritual growth. We’ve been given access to God anytime, anywhere through prayer. Worshiping God during both alone time spent with Him and in corporate worship at church will draw you nearer to Him. Then, fellowship! Spend time sharing what God is doing in your life with other believers, and encourage one another. Lastly, witness.
