Jesus is our Refuge

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear..." These powerful verses from Psalm 46 remind us of a key truth found throughout God's Word—when we become a child of God, Jesus is our refuge. In fact, the last thing Jesus told His disciples before He ascended into heaven was, "...surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." There may be many things we fear or battle. But today, I want to encourage you: Find your refuge in Jesus. He will be your Rock, your Fortress, your Bulwark when storms come your way. You can rest in Him. And knowing this important truth changes everything. It gives us the strength to do what Jesus asked His disciples to do before He told them He will always be with them: "Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations..." Jesus is our Healer

In the New Testament, Jesus performs miracle after miracle, healing on the lame, the sick, and the blind. He even raised His friend Lazarus from the dead! Christ has the power to heal us physically; but, you know, the biggest miracle of all is that Jesus can also heal us spiritually. Psalms 103 says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not his benefits, He forgives all of our iniquity, who heals all of our disease..." Physical illness is one of the awful side effects of sin coming into the world in the Garden of Eden. And the curse of sin has caused this world and everything in it to decay. But Jesus has compassion for the sick and the hurting. Through His death on the cross, He offers anyone who puts their trust wholly, firmly in Him healing from their sin and complete healing one day in Heaven. Jesus is our Friend

Recently, I was reading statistics from a renowned research company who found that 20% of Americans feel daily loneliness. This confirms what I’ve heard from people all around the world in the past few years—that people feel isolated and alone. In a day and age of social media and global internet, our younger generations are called “the loneliest generation that’s have ever lived.” But there is Someone who came to heal broken hearts. Jesus befriended both outcasts and sinners. He met with them, walked with them, and even died on a cross for them and for us. His death was a sacrifice that paid for the sins of any who will put their trust in Him. And you know what happens when we do that? He calls us, “Friend.” And from that moment we place our trust in Him, He promises that He’s always with us—that He will never to leave us. Jesus is our Savior

In Matthew 16:13-16, Jesus had asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” Well, they replied that some thought he was one of the prophets. And when Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And you know, to this day, people are still asking that very question: "Who is Jesus?" And being that Jesus is God, the answer to that question is too big to answer in one minute or an hour or a day. But today, I'd like to start with this: that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. He came from Heaven to earth, lived an absolutely perfect life, and died on the cross for our sins. He rose from the dead, and is in Heaven now, offering the free gift of eternal life to anyone who will put their full trust in Him. Jesus is our Savior! A Just Judge

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Let's suppose I stood before a judge with fifty thousand parking tickets; and in my opportunity to speak, I asked the judge, "your Honor, would you please let me go? I promise I’ll be a perfect driver from now on." Do you think that judge should declare me free? If he or she did, they couldn’t be considered a just judge. The reason I share this illustration is that it is the same decision God is faced with when looking at our sin. Yes, He loves us and doesn't want to punish us; but on the other hand, He is just and must punish sin. Do you see the problem? Well, God solved this problem in the person of Jesus Christ, who lived an absolutely perfect life, died on the cross to pay for our sins, and all we have to do is put our trust in Jesus alone to be declared righteous in God's sight. Never Failing Hope

Have you ever put your hope in another person? Well, if that person is trustworthy, it’s fine! But here's the problem with placing your hope in other people: sometimes, they let you down. But I am here to tell you that placing your hope in Jesus will never result in you being let down. Lamentations 3 says this: Therefore I have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. What a wonderful thing, to know that your hope for eternal life in Heaven can be certain because Jesus is faithful! If you don't have this hope yet, look to Jesus. His mercies never fails. You Can Be Certain

What are you completely certain about? You can be sure the sun will rise to the east and set to the west. You can be sure that one plus one will always equal two. And you can be absolutely certain that you cannot get into Heaven because of the good things you've done. Now, before you write that off as a calloused statement or simply an opinion, consider what the Bible says. The Bible tells us that no one is good, not even one. It also says to be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect. It is a real problem for us if no one is good, yet we are expected to be perfect. We simply cannot do it! This problem is solved by the Person of Jesus Christ who was both God and Man - perfect, just and full of grace. You can be certain that placing your faith in Jesus is enough for eternal salvation. Eternal Peace

Do you ever wonder what happens after death? Does it worry you? Don told us on whatsmystory.org that he used to be pretty scared of dying. As a teenager, his best friend died suddenly in a car accident and at his funeral, he became overwhelmed with fear. Don didn't know where he would spend eternity. That has all changed now! Someone shared the Good News of Jesus with him, he accepted it and now he says that his fear of death has been replaced by peace with God! Now Don is living his life full of peace and telling others about the peace he has found in Jesus. Is this something you need? You know, Heaven is a completely free gift. The Truth

Have you ever thought, 'that may be true for them, but that's not my truth'? But if something is actually true...then, it is in fact...true! Jesus Christ said, "You will know the truth and the truth will make you free."  In fact, He declared that there is truth and not a relativistic truth.  He didn’t say you will know “a truth” or “your truth” but He said, you will know “the truth.”  Today, people will say that we can’t know anything for certain but, again, the Bible tells us in First John five verse thirteen, that “These things have I written that you may know that you have eternal life." Now this is something you can count on to be true: Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and He alone can save you. By believing the truth that Jesus took your sin upon Himself and broke down the wall that kept you from a relationship with God, you can have eternal life. Visit our website at sharelife.today.

Beginning Discipleship

If you know Jesus, you know that salvation is just the beginning of a lifetime leaning on your Savior. God is not finished with us yet! There are five means of spiritual growth that every Christian needs, and I encourage you to come alongside another believer to help them in their walk with Christ. The first is to read your Bible daily! Even just a chapter a day. Start with the Gospel of John and go from there. Secondly, prayer is vital for spiritual growth. We’ve been given access to God anytime, anywhere through prayer. Worshiping God during both times alone spent with Him and in corporate worship at church will draw you nearer to Him. Then, fellowship! Spend time sharing what God is doing in your life with other believers, and encourage one another. Lastly, witness.
