Beginning Discipleship

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
If you know Jesus, you know that salvation is just the beginning of a lifetime leaning on your Savior. God is not finished with us yet! There are five means of spiritual growth that every Christian needs, and I encourage you to come alongside another believer to help them in their walk with Christ. The first is to read your Bible daily! Even just a chapter a day. Start with the Gospel of John and go from there. Secondly, prayer is vital for spiritual growth. We’ve been given access to God anytime, anywhere through prayer. Worshiping God during both times alone spent with Him and in corporate worship at church will draw you nearer to Him. Then, fellowship! Spend time sharing what God is doing in your life with other believers, and encourage one another. Lastly, witness. Every Christian is called to witness so the whole world may hear the love of God. If you need help discipling, being discipled or witnessing, visit our website at sharelife.today.

The Method of a Mentor

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
What is a mentor? Well, according to the dictionary, it is "a trusted counselor or guide." If you are mentoring someone in how to be a better cook, you don't just tell them how. You show them by standing next to them in the kitchen while they cook! This is exactly how we disciple others as Christians. Jesus shows us the perfect example in Mark 3 and Luke 6. When we compare these passages, we see that Jesus spent an entire night on a mountain in prayer; and that when He came down “He appointed the twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach.” It was in the process of “being with Him” that they learned ministry and caught His vision. And then, they followed in His footsteps. We do this very thing in EE through On The Job Training, where we take our trainees out and share the Gospel with them. This is so important in order to teach those we disciple. Learn more at sharelife.today.

The Model Mentor

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
When we look at what it means to be a mentor, there is no greater example than Jesus Himself. In fact, Jesus did not only mentor the apostles but also at least seventy-two others believers. You can find this story in Luke 10:1 where it says, "After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where he was about to go." Now Jesus had some specific objectives when sending these believers out before Him. He didn't just say, "Go!" He took time to teach them and prepare them for the hard journey ahead. He told them that they would be like lambs among wolves and shared with them specific ways they could know how and where to share the Gospel. When we mentor others, we also have to prepare them for how they can share their faith and discern the Holy Spirit's leading. Would you like to learn how to be a great mentor like Jesus? Well, you can! You can find out more at sharelife.today. That’s sharelife.today.

The Great Commission’s Focus

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
The focus of Jesus’ Great Commission is not in making converts, but rather in making disciples. This was the mark of His ministry on earth, and this is the mark of the mentors we need in the Church today. So, please don't hear me wrong. It is absolutely vital that we share our faith and that everyone gets an opportunity to hear the Gospel. But once they do make a decision to give their life to Christ, we want to equip and disciple them as a new believer. We can't just leave them were they're at and carry on with our lives! It's important for us to give the new believer a track to run on — as Paul modeled for us throughout the New Testament when he encourages believers to run the race and keep the faith. We have the privilege of being disciple-makers across the generations. And it starts with our willingness to share the Gospel. The Making of a Mentor

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
What is spiritual multiplication, and why is it important? In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul writes, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to train others..." When we share the Gospel and disciple others, we start this important multiplication process. Our spiritual journey isn't finished when we come to know Christ as our Savior. In fact, it’s only the beginning! And it is our responsibility and privilege to tell others the Gospel and help them spiritually grow in their walk. And as more and more believers come to faith in Christ and then grow in their relationship with Him, they too will take up the call of sharing with and discipling others. The old saying goes, "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime." It is better to train a soul-winner than to merely win a soul! It changes everything. Learn more about at sharelife.today.

Meet Them Where They’re At

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
It's time to get creative! The truth is, as a body of Christ, we all bring different skills and passions. And so do the younger people in the church! And we can meet them in the middle and use their passions as a way to disciple them. In Romania, every summer they hold a national camp for a week where they focus on discipling teenagers. And every year, there are around one hundred and twenty students from across Europe—and the world!—who join. They focus on three key areas: equipping them with how to share the Gospel, street evangelism and reaching the community, and sports activities like zip lining, competitions, mountain climbing, and all kinds of sports. Not only are these young people sharing their faith and seeing other’s hearts and lives changed, they are also having a blast doing it! Now what can we do to disciple the young people in our churches in how the Gospel? Let's meet them where they're at. For resources, visit sharelife.today.

Passing the Baton

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Christianity has always been just one generation from extinction. I mean — think about it. All it takes is for one generation to drop the ball for the next generation to miss the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. They cannot pass along what they do not have. And it can happen in just one generation. In Judges 2, an entire generation grew up not knowing the Lord and what He had done for nation of Israel, because the previous generation did not pass it along. So what do we do? How can we engage the younger generation with the Gospel in a way that’s real and personal? Well firstly, we can start by giving children and young adults a strong foundation in the Gospel. And secondly, we can allow them be an integral part in building God's Kingdom right now by helping them share the most exciting gift that they have: their faith. Imparting Important Skills
Wednesday Mar 19, 2025
Wednesday Mar 19, 2025
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
What are some of the skills and qualities that we want to impart to the young people around us? Just like Paul raised up Timothy in the ways of the faith, we too impart important, Biblical truths to younger believers. It is our privilege to disciple the next generation—as they will be a powerful catalyst of change in the world. So first, we want to encourage those we mentor to make witnessing a way of life. And they will confidently share if we teach them how. Second, we want them to have a loving and caring attitude toward the lost—that they would see others the way that God sees them. And finally, it wouldn't be spiritual multiplication if they didn't catch the desire and the ability to train others, just as we are training them. These are some of the key skills that we want to give to those that we mentor! For more information on how you can be a great mentor, visit our website at sharelife.today. That’s sharelife.today.

Discipled and Discipling
Tuesday Mar 18, 2025
Tuesday Mar 18, 2025
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Mark Dever says, "The Christian life is the discipled life and the discipling life.” We need both to grow a healthy, full walk with Christ. So let's take our time to study the Word, pray without ceasing, fellowship with other Christians, worship our amazing, Living God, and share our faith with others. And even better if these things happen under a mentor who has walked with God longer than us! This will set us on a path of being discipled. And then, we ourselves are called to reach out and disciple someone else. This could look like us sharing the Gospel, seeing someone give their life to Christ, and then walking with them in spiritual growth as a new believer. I can personally tell you — experiencing this lights a fire in the soul and an excitement and joy in your walk with Christ! This is a picture of what the church should be—discipleship reaching across the generations. For more resources to get you started, visit sharelife.today.

Change The World
Monday Mar 17, 2025
Monday Mar 17, 2025
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Do you know a young person who wants to change the world? Well today, it seems that young people have an endless fountain of passion for impacting the world. And that’s great! But what if we could direct that passion toward transforming the world with the Good News of the Gospel? In the book of Acts, we read about Paul who said, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.” And that message of hope changed the world for all of eternity. And it is our privilege and joy to raise up the next generation, to carry on the Good News of Jesus, and to disciple believers who will carry out Kingdom work. Because they will be impacting the world regardless as their generation become the leaders of churches, businesses, and communities. So let us take the time to intentionally disciple the teenagers around us to be able to share their faith. And if you aren't sure where to start, we would love to help.
